I'm Fabian. I build the AWS side of connected products.

Sixteen years writing software, the last twelve of them on AWS. For the past five that has mostly meant one thing: getting a fleet of devices in the field talking to a cloud backend, and keeping them talking. I work through my own company and I work alone — the person you meet is the person who writes the code.

How I got here

Fabian Stehle

I studied computer science at KIT in Karlsruhe and started building things professionally in 2010, as a founder of a startup doing document understanding — I was the one responsible for the technology. After that came a few years as an engineer at a product company scaling websites for millions of users, which is where I learned what “at scale” costs in practice rather than in slides.

Independent since 2017. The last five years were one long engagement in connected mobility: cloud backends for a device fleet, device certificates, over-the-air updates, build infrastructure for embedded teams, video streaming from them. That is where most of what I know about IoT came from, and why I keep coming back to it.

fstehle systems GmbH is the company I bill through. It’s a legal envelope, not an organisation — if you work with it, you’re working with me.

A few sentences about the problem is enough. I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person for it — and if I'm not, what kind of person is.
